What Are Acrylic Lighting Diffusers?

Acrylic lighting diffusers are panels fitted over LED, fluorescent, or recessed fixtures to soften and evenly distribute light. They reduce harsh glare, hide LED modules and fittings, and protect the light source from dust and damage. Opal white acrylic delivers maximum diffusion with a clean opaque finish; frosted acrylic offers a semi‑transparent satin look for decorative settings. Both are precision‑cut to your exact L × W × thickness (mm) in our Johannesburg workshop.

Applications — Environments & Benefits

  • Retail ceilings & shelving — even, glare-free light across product shelves, gondola bays and promo lightboxes for better visual merchandising.
  • Pharmacies & clinics — soft, uniform illumination for dispensing areas, consultation counters and patient signage.
  • Corporate & offices — LED troffer covers and ceiling grid panels that reduce eye strain in open-plan offices and meeting rooms.
  • Hospitality — bar and reception backlighting, menu boards, feature niches and pendant fittings.
  • Exhibitions & events — temporary lightboxes, backlit wall panels and branded feature stands.
  • Industrial & warehouse — high-bay light diffusion and safety glare reduction in work and packing areas.
  • Architects & interior designers — custom opal or frosted panels for feature ceilings and bespoke lighting installations, cut to your CAD dimensions.

How It Works — Procurement Flow

    1. Send your lighting brief or RFQ — panel sizes (L × W × thickness in mm), quantity range, material preference (opal or frosted), photos or drawings of existing fittings, site location and deadline.
    2. We confirm the spec and quote — we recommend the best grade (Perspex®, PLEXIGLAS® or standard acrylic) and provide a firm price, typically within 1–3 working days. Larger or complex projects may take longer.
    3. Optional sample approval — request a cut sample to confirm colour, finish and fit before full production. We'll also confirm corner radii, clip slots or cut-outs.
    4. Fabrication in Johannesburg + SA-wide courier — manufactured in Newlands, Johannesburg and couriered nationwide. Typical lead time: 7–10 business days from spec confirmation. Rush orders available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions — Acrylic Lighting Diffusers

    Sizing, fit & materials

    1. Can you cut diffusers to my exact size?

Yes — send length, width and thickness in millimetres (L × W × T), plus quantity. We precision-cut to ±0.5 mm to fit standard LED troffers, ceiling grids and custom fixtures.

    2. Will your panels fit my existing light fittings?

Yes — we cut to your exact L × W dimensions and can accommodate corner radii, clip slots and cut-outs to match your housing. Send a photo or drawing and we'll match it precisely.

    3. What is the difference between opal and frosted acrylic?

Opal white gives maximum diffusion with a clean opaque finish — best for office troffers and lightboxes. Frosted is semi-transparent with a satin appearance, ideal for feature panels where some light transmission is wanted.

    4. What thickness do I need?

Most ceiling and troffer applications use 2 mm, 3 mm or 4 mm. We'll confirm the best option when you share your fixture details. Heavier or custom thicknesses can be quoted on request.

    5. Is acrylic UV resistant? Will it yellow over time?

General-purpose acrylic is UV-stable and resists yellowing indoors. For outdoor or high-UV exposure we can supply UV-stabilised grades — specify your environment when requesting a quote.

    6. What fire rating options are available?

Standard acrylic is combustible. If your project requires a specific fire classification, advise us and we will source an appropriate grade. Always confirm requirements with your project fire engineer.

    Ordering, lead times & volume

    7. Is there a minimum order quantity?

No minimum — we make single replacement panels and large bulk orders alike. Trade and bulk rollouts receive priority scheduling and competitive pricing.

    8. What are your typical lead times? Can you rush?

Standard turnaround is 7–10 business days from spec confirmation. Rush orders can be arranged — let us know your deadline when you send your brief.

    9. Can I match diffuser panels across multiple stores or branches?

Yes — we batch-cut orders from the same material lot and keep your spec on file. Repeat orders are produced to the same dimensions, thickness and finish, ensuring consistency across all sites.

    Delivery & installation

    10. How are panels packed and shipped SA-wide?

Each panel is interleaved with protective film, edge-protected and packed flat in sturdy cardboard or plywood crates. We courier nationwide from Johannesburg. Delivery cost is quoted upfront with your invoice.

    11. Can diffusers be installed in covered outdoor areas?

Diffusers are primarily designed for indoor use. Covered-outdoor applications (under a patio or canopy) are possible with UV-stable grades and proper enclosure. Discuss your project with our team.
